THE GHOSTLIGHT PROJECT KICKS OFF OUR SUMMER OF SERVICE INITIATIVE WITH

WHO’S YOUR NEIGHBOR?

ALL SUMMER LONG, THEATERS AND THEATER-MAKERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY WILL TAKE PART IN THIS INITIATIVE, MEETING THEIR NEIGHBORS, MAKING MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS IN THEIR AREA, AND LEARNING HOW TO BE OF SERVICE.

We invite your institution to pick a day (or more!) in the spring or summer to join forces with a local nonprofit or community-based organization to give back and reinforce the idea that to reflect the world, we must be an integral part of it.

This idea can take many shapes! We encourage you, as always, to listen and respond to the needs and energy of your community. Your institution could pick a day to serve in a soup kitchen or a few of your artists could visit a local public school and give a free workshop. One idea we want to share is a mixer we’re co-hosting with the Signature Theatre in New York:

On May 1st, to kick-off this summer-long initiative, The Ghostlight Project and The Signature Theatre are co-hosting a potluck open to anyone interested in discovering volunteer opportunities. Hear from local service organizations including Center for the Independence of the Disabled New York, Foster Your Dream, iMentor, and many more, to learn about the services they provide and how you can get involved. After the panel discussion, meet representatives from these organizations and sign up for volunteering opportunities.

To join our Summer of Service, we are asking theatres and theater-makers to:

1. Pick an organization or two or three (you can find a list of nation-wide and local organizations here)

2. Connect with them, find out if they're interested in collaborating, and how you can best serve them.

3. Pick a date for a GET-TOGETHER.

4. Let us know what date/who/where.

Share your event details with us via email (wearetheghostlightproject@gmail.com) or via our Facebook Group. We want to shout out your event to inspire others!

This is but a singular step in The Ghostlight Project’s continued commitment to keep our theatres as beacons of light, both on and off stage! Will you and your institution join us?
